Often enough, a back pain can completely subside within a few acupuncture sessions only and be greatly alleviated after the first acupuncture session. Other cases require more treatments or the combination of more than one approach.

Acupuncture has acquired a solid reputation over the last milleniums concerning the relief of back pain and the treatment of the source of its manifestations. No one should have to accept to live with chronic pain on a daily basis. A healthy body and peace of mind is your own birth right. Come and claim it today by taking appointment at Clinic Shanti. From the words of the sages: Health is wealth. Peace of mind is happiness. You will find the way if you choose to.

Back pain has become the first cause for invalidity measures in the province of Quebec's workplace.

Have your back pain treated with acupuncture at the onset, and you will experience quick relief. Your acupuncturist can help you determine how much treatment will be necessary and if it is advisable or not to use complementary approaches to the acupuncture sessions (exercice, etc.)

In practice, it is important to differentiate acute pain, which appeared for the first time within the last 30 days, from chronic pain, which manifests everyday since more than 6 weeks ago.

Here are a few examples of back pain pattern diagnosis according to traditional chinese medicine:

STAGNANT QI AND BLOOD

Qi:

Tightness, manifesting in the back and neck, frustration, resentment, supressed anger, irritability, depression, might be worse in the morning, relieved in the hour following awakening.

Blood:

Intense, stabbing pain, one spot type, very little relief is found from movement.

INVASION FROM WIND-COLD-HUMIDITY-HEAT

Acute back pain following exposure to wind, and/or cold, and/or humidity.

Wind: sudden caracter with changing manifestations of pain locale and intensity experienced. Aggravated by drafts inside.

Cold: worse with cold, better with warm applications.

Humidity: the pain has a heavy, sometimes bearing down feeling, possible presence of edema, swelling. Aggravated by wet weather.

Heat: very tender to the mere touch, redness, inflammation. Combination of Heat and Humidity gives the back pain associated with urinary tract infection and pyelonephritis. Urinary tract infections, both acute and chronic, respond well to acupuncture. Acute pyelonephritis should be adressed by conventional medical emergency protocols.

KIDNEY DEFICIENCY

Chronic pain, may be accompanied by weakness/pain in the knees/ankles, impotance/infertility, frequent or abundant urination.
