Producing and Using Energy

Health depends largely on the organism's ability to produce and use energy. The metabolic capacity to produce energy typically declines with age. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) - a form of vitamin B3 - could compensate for the loss of cellular energy production. In a mouse model, the benefits of NMN supplementation were observed exclusively in older mice. These mice showed a higher level of physical activity, better insulin sensitivity, less weight gain, as well as better vital functions at the level of immunity, liver, eyes, skeletal muscles, and better bone density. NMN would also have the effect of reducing oxidative stress and vascular dysfunctions linked to aging. Humans are certainly not mice. However, the metabolic processes of homo sapiens sapiens are similar in several respects to other mammals, which is why the mouse model is used to test a hypothesis before moving to the human model. I haven't said so, but I predict that soon someone will be saying that broccoli, cucumbers, avocado, cabbage and edamame beans are really good for health.
